Active Older Adults

The Y has fitness classes specifically designed for older adults. They give participants an opportunity to stay physically active or in some cases, to overcome their fear of exercise and begin being physically active.  Our Y has affiliation with both the Silver & Fit Program and SilverSneakers.  Please check out each represented page on our website or call for more information and check your eligibility.

Are you at-risk of falls and injuries?  Take our FITNESS ASSESSMENT.  It gives good points to discuss with your doctor at your next visit.

Y Active Older Adult fitness programs accommodate a wide variety of interests and functional abilities of older adults. Active Older Adults programs include water exercise, light cardio, yoga and stretching classes.

Our Y also offers socialization opportunities such as Senior Cards Club, Motor coach trips and lunch clubs.

Enjoy the therapeutic benefits of our warm water pool and improve your social an d physical wellness.  The YMCA of the USA and the American Arthritis Foundation joined together to create this low impact water recreational exercise program for people with arthritis.  It is not necessary to know how to swim.

Get Up & Go with an aerobic class that's safe, heart-healthy and gentle on the joints.  The workout includes easy-to-follow low-impact movement, and upper-body strength, abdominal conditioning, stretching and relaxation exercises designed to energize your active lifestyle.

*Note: Participants MUST be able to stand for a minimum of 45 minutes in order to meet the prerequisite for this class.

"I don't wanna work-- just want to bang on the drums all day!"  Using a Fitball elevated on a bucket and an actual pair of drumsticks, lay down your own beat while bustin' a move to some powerful music.  It's a great full body workout that can be low or high impact!  It's fat burning FUN!  No rhythm required.  Just a willingness to let your inner rock star out!

For adults, in addition to the structured lessons, we also offer pool time set aside for you to come "do it yourself".  This self-instructed class is also a time for you to come build lasting friendships and socialize while working in the water.  It's designed for seniors, those recovering from surgery, and those seeking self-led water exercises to improve range of motion and strength without impact on the joints.  Come enjoy the benefits of water-walking, aqua-jogging or just making new friends.  Space is available in the deep end.  Join the afternoon crowd for an informal water volleyball game in the shallow end!

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills.  Hand-held weight, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance.  A chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

Activate your aqua exercise urge for variety!  SilverSplash® offers LOTS of fun and shallow water moves to improve agility, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance.  No swimming ability is required, and a special SilverSneakers® kickboard is used to develop strength, balance, and coordination.

Make friends and meet new people!  Swimnastics is a basic level water exercise class that uses the natural buoyancy and resistance of water and equipment to work toward improving participant flexibility, muscular strength, and cardiovascular endurance.

Yoga® will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses.  Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement.  Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
