YOUTH SPORTS & PLAY

  

 

 

BEGINNING BALLET- ALL SEASONS
Jen North-Miller with a degree in dance and over 12 years experience in all dance forms, will instruct students in the foundations of ballet.  Areas of focus will include: keeping rhythm and also to count and speak a few words in French.  Students will develop posture, flexibility, and strength, all while making new friends.

 

BEGINNING KARATE- ALL SEASONS
Based on the traditional Okinawa martial art of Ryukyu Kempo Karate, an instructor will take the students from basics of kicking, punching, and defending to higher level of Kyusho-jutsu, a high fighting method based on acupressure.  Head instructor Lynn Carper is a 7th degree black belt with over 30 years experience in the martial arts.  Ryukyu Kempo offers a balance of aerobics, strengthening, flexibility, and coordination to improve physical fitness.  Participants will have fun while interacting with others that have the same interests, while practice raises the discipline and then lifts the human spirit.  An abduction prevention program called "Kids Safe" is taught to youth.

 

BEGINNING TUMBLING / DANCE- ALL SEASONS
Students will have fun and make new friends while learning beginning skills in tumbling and dance.  For youth aged 3 - 12 years.

 

TEEN BOOTCAMP- ALL SEASONS
Cloned from our popular adult boot camp, this drill-style class is set up in an interval format for teens age 13 - 18 years old.  It's a functional training class which emphasizes agility, balance, speed, strength, and endurance.  Great off-season training for athletes to keep their competitive edge!

 

TEENS ON WEIGHTS- ALL SEASONS
Build strong bones and muscles by learning to lift weights properly.  This class is for those individuals that would like to use the weight room at age 14.  The class teaches basic strength training exercises for the entire body, as well as weight room rules and etiquette.  The student will take a practical and/or written test at the end of the session, which he/she must pass in order to use the weight room.  If the test is passed, the student will receive a special membership pass to the weight rooms!

 

 

AQUATICS

 

FLIP AND SWIM- ALL SEASONS
Kids, 3-5 years, interested in tumbling and swimming can enjoy a combined hour instructed lessons of each!  One half hour is devoted to swimming and the other to tumbling.  This is a great introductory class to a lifetime full of safe swimming and physical fitness.

 

LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION- INTEREST LIST
Ever want to learn the skills to save a life?  With our Lifeguard Certification courses, you can do just that.  Participants will learn life-guarding skills, how to perform CPR on an adult, child and infant, how to use an AED, and necessary first aid skills.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be at least age 15 for ARC Certification
  •  Able to swim continuously 300 yd
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only
  • Surface dive to 9 ft and return to the surface
  • Pick up 10# object off the bottom of the pool and swim 20 yards

Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will be certified in American Red Cross Life-guarding.

 

LITTLE FLIPPERS- ALL SEASONS
Program designed for parents and children 18-36 months who are interested in a fun playtime and swim lesson.  Children will learn motor skills required in water and on land.  Program is separated into one half hour parent/child swim lesson and one half hour independent tumbling time on our gymnastic mats and equipment.  Parents must be with the child at all times.

 

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS- ALL SEASONS
Private swim lessons are available for all ages and swim levels.  Please stop by the front desk today to place your name on our interest list.  Once there is an opening, your instructor will call and set up your lessons.  We now have pool time-slots solely designated to private and semi-private lessons.  Please note this is a premium service with limited instructor availability.  For more immediate instruction, consider our group lessons.

 

SEMI-PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS- ALL SEASONS
Do you have children that are of the same skill level and would like to have them participate in a lesson together?  Semi-private swim lessons are for you.  Have your name put on the interest list, and an instructor will call you as soon as one becomes available.  We now have pool time-slots solely designated to private and semi-private lessons.  Please note this is a premium service with limited instructor availability.  For more immediate instruction, consider our group lessons.

 

YOUTH SWIM LESSONS AGE 0 - 5 YRS- ALL YEAR

WATERBABIES - 6 MONTHS TO 36 MONTHS
No swim skills.
A fun class for parents and children to familiarizes children with the water, promote family enrichment and bonding, and water safety.  Parents or guardian must accompany each child in the water.

PIKE
Beginning swim skills.
Must be at least 3 years old and comfortable without parent.  Children will learn general pool safety and how to swim the width of the pool.  A swim belt is used to help children feel comfortable in the water, all while gaining self-confidence.

EEL
Advanced beginning swim skills.
Must be confident in the water without a personal floatation device.  If child has obtained pike class skills, and is comfortable jumping in the pool without a floatation device, child is ready for the Eel class.  Goals of this class include: swimming the width of the pool with little assistance and stroke development.

RAY / STARFISH
Intermediate swim skills.
Must be able to swim the entire length of the pool without assistance prior to enrollment.  This class continues stroke development and introduces swimming length.

 

YOUTH SWIM LESSONS AGES 6 & UP- ALL YEAR

POLLIWOG
Beginning swim skills.
This class teaches the basic skills of floating, kicking and reaching/pulling while teaching pool safety and gaining self-confidence.

GUPPY
Advanced beginning swim skills.
Youth must be confident swimming a length of the pool before registering for Guppy class.  This class teaches rotary breathing, back crawl and refines the front crawl while learning safety precautions.

MINNOW
Intermediate swim skills.
Youth must be confident swimming multiple lengths of the pool as this class teaches endurance, refines the front and back crawl and continues the emphasis of water safety skills.  The breast stroke is introduced.

FISH
Advanced swim skills.
Youth will improve stroke development as well as dives for technique.  Swimmers will also work on swimming continuously for 100 yards and the importance of teamwork.

FLYING FISH / SHARK
Advanced swim skills.
Youth will be refining the four competitive strokes (front/free, back, breast and fly) and encouraging endurance while promoting personal growth.  Class also teaches flip turns and dives from block starts.

 

SPORTS

 

1ST & 2ND GRADE BASKETBALL LEAGUE- WINTER
This is a co-ed program for children currently in 1st and 2nd grade.  Rims will be lowered to 8 ft, and the program will include a t-shirt.  The league is designed for children to learn the basic fundamentals of the game.  Games will be held on Saturdays.  Practices will be one hour and held during the week, with days and times set by our volunteer coaches.

  

3RD & 4TH GRADE INDOOR SOCCER LEAGUE- WINTER
This is a co-ed program.  Practices are limited to one hour twice a week until the season begins.  When the season begins, teams will only practice once a week, with games on Saturdays.  Practice days and times are determined by our volunteer coaches.  Fundamentals to be taught include: position and movement, ball dribbling skills, and shooting skills.  Each child will receive a t-shirt.

  

3RD & 4TH GRADE VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE- WINTER
This program is for boys and girls in the 3rd and 4th grade wanting to learn and play volleyball.  Players will learn the fundamentals of bumping and setting in a fun and positive atmosphere.  All participants will receive a t-shirt.  Games will be held on Saturdays, and "volley-lite" (lighter regulation) ball will be used for all games.  Practices will be held twice a week until games start, and all the practice days and times are determined by our volunteer coaches.

  

5TH & 6TH GRADE VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE- WINTER
This program is for boys and girls in 5th and 6th grade wanting to learn and play volleyball.  Players will learn the fundamentals of bumping and setting in a fun and positive environment.  All participants will receive a t-shirt.  Games will be held on Saturdays, and a "volley-lite" (lighter regulation) ball will be used for all games.  Practices will be held twice a week until games start, with the days and times determined by our volunteer coaches.

  

BITTY SPORTS PROGRAM- ALL SEASONS     
Boys & Girls in Preschool and Kindergarten are taught the fundamentals of a different sport each session.  This program is a teaching course for kids that have not played much and are interested in playing in Y leagues.  The rules and fundamentals of the game will be taught through drills, games and positive reinforcement.  The program is 4 weeks long, and every child will receive a t-shirt at the end of the program.  Program will proceed the sports league for each program. Max registration.

ROOKIE FUNDAMENTAL BASKETBALL PROGRAM- WINTER
This program is for boys and girls currently enrolled in 1st and 2nd grade.  Rookie Fundamentals will be taught once a week for 4 weeks.  This program teaches the basics of basketball in a fun environment.  The skills they learn in this program will give them the tools and confidence to play in the 1st and 2nd grade Y basketball league.  Every child will receive a t-shirt at the end of the program.  Max registration.

 

SUMMER DAY CAMPS- SUMMER
Are you ready for summer?  Y Day Camp provides an amazingly unique opportunity for campers to be who they are in a supportive community while exploring new skills and improving existing ones.  The Y Day Camp experience begins and ends at the Sandusky County YMCA each day of the summer for kids grades K - 5th.  Focused on youth development, crafting strong community, and building friendships, our programming allows campers to progress in their skill development in a variety of activities.  Extended care is available before or after camp, and a nutritious lunch is provided.

  

T-BALL LEAGUE- SPRING
Batter's up!  T-ball for boys and girls aged 4 - 6 years of age.  Kids learn the basic skills of throwing, hitting, catching, and running.  This league is a great way to introduce your athlete to baseball.  This 8 week program is a co-ed league.  Teams will practice twice a week until games begin.  Once games begin, there will be one practice a week.  Children must be at least 4 years old before May 1st and cannot be over 7 years old before May 1st.

  

TRACK & FIELD- SPRING
If you love track, then you're perfect for the Y Track Team!  The track team is designed to benefit boys and girls 4 years to 10th grade of all talents and experiences.  Practices will be at the track behind Fremont Ross High School.  The season will be broken up into two sessions; spring and summer.  The spring session will practice on Sunday evenings, while the summer session will practice on Sundays and one other day during the week.  Meets will be on Saturdays versus area YMCAs.

  

RAGBALL- SPRING
Lets play ball!  Rag ball is designed to make the transition from T-ball to Little League easier for your child.  The ball is pitched by the player's coach.  Rules are set to help the players learn more about baseball/softball, learn good sportsmanship and have an enjoyable learning experience.  Our 8-week, co-ed league is for Boys and Girls aged 6-8 years of age.  Kids further develop the basic skills of throwing, hitting, catching, and running.  Teams will practice twice a week until games begin.  Once games begin, there will be one practice a week.  Children must be at least 6 years old before May 1st and cannot be over 8 years old before May 1st.

  

HOMESCHOOL PE PROGRAM- ALL SEASONS
P.E./ Fitness program designed for Homeschool children of all ages that builds friendships and encourages interaction and cooperation with others.  Students will improve their sports skills and physical fitness levels, including swimming!  Sports activities include: Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, Dodgeball and Wiffleball.  Fitness activities include: Boot camp, weight instruction, playground and movement games.  Program meets for 6 weeks; swimming on the 3rd and 6th weeks.  Registration follows program sessions dates throughout the school-year.

  

CHEER CLINIC- SUMMER
You will learn LOTS of great cheers and chants!  Drop-off and pick-up can be provided by our Childcare staff.  You will learn some cool dance moves, as well as proudly marching in Fremont's 4th of July parade!

  

SUMMER DAY CAMPS- SUMMER
YMCA Summer Day Camps offer children 5-12 years old a safe and exciting place where they can have fun, meet new friends, and make memories to last a lifetime.  YMCA Day Camps are designed to introduce participants to a wide range of activities.  All camp programs emphasize the YMCAs core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility with camp staff and their fellow participants.

  

1ST & 2ND GRADE FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE- FALL
This is a co-ed flag football league for 1st and 2nd grade boys and girls.  The program provides young players with fun and exciting opportunity to engage in non-contact, continuous action while learning lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship.  Teams will practice twice a week until games begin.  Once games begin, there will be one practice a week.

  

1ST & 2ND GRADE INDOOR SOCCER LEAGUE- FALL
The soccer league is a co-ed boy's and girl's league.  Teams will practice twice a week until games begin.  Once games begin, there will be one practice a week.  Games will be on Saturday mornings.  Fundamentals to be taught include: position and movement, ball handling skills and defensive skills.

  

3RD & 4TH FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE- FALL
This is a co-ed flag football league for 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls.  The program provides young players with fun and exciting opportunity to engage in non-contact, continuous action while learning lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship.  Teams will practice twice a week until games begin.  Once games begin, there will be one practice a week.

 

3RD & 4TH GRADE BASKETBALL LEAGUE- FALL
The basketball league is divided into a boy's and girl's league.  Teams will practice twice a week until games begin.  Once games begin, there will be one practice a week.  Fundamentals to be taught include: position and movement, ball handling skills (passing, receiving, dribbling, shooting), defensive skills, and rebounding.  Games are on Saturday mornings.

 

4TH, 5TH & 6TH GRADE TRAVEL TACKLE FOOTBALL- FALL
Are you ready for some TACKLE football?  The Sandusky County YMCA has joined the Sandusky Bay Young Football League.  Boys and girls must be in the 4th, 5th or 6th grade during the school year, and cannot be 13 years of age before September 1st.  No weight limit to play.  The 4th grade will be on their own team and play other 4th grade teams.  The 5th and 6th graders will each have two teams.  Home games will be played at Don Paul Stadium and away games will be played at one of the locations of the teams on the league.

 

4 - 6 YEARS OLD VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE- FALL
This 7 week program is a co-ed boys and girls league.  The net will be moved down and a soft 18" diameter volleyball will be used to help the participants be able to pass and hit the ball over the net.  A 20 x 20 ft court will be used.  Rules will be modified to help kids have a great time learning volleyball.  Teams will practice twice a week until games begin.  Once games begin there will be one practice a week with games played on Saturday mornings.

 

7 - 8 YEARS OLD VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE- FALL
