YOUTH SPORTS (BY SEASON)

 

BEGINNING KARATE- ALL SEASONS
Martial arts is a system of learning how to use your body efficiently with the main purpose for self-defense.  The Ryukyu Kempo was developed over centuries of time on the island of Okinawa  The practice of karate develops speed, balance, strength, and coordination.  As you advance, self-defense techniques are added for your personal protection.  The more advanced is based on Kyusho-Jutsu, a system of fighting passed on acupressure.  Monte Adams is the lead instructor with 10 years of practice and has a rank of 3rd degree Blackbelt.  Master instructor, Lynn Carper has over 40 years of practice and has an 8th degree Blackbelt ranking.

 

BITTY SPORTS PROGRAM- ALL SEASONS
Boys & Girls in Preschool and Kindergarten are taught the fundamentals of a different sport each session.  This program is a teaching course for kids that have not played much and are interested in playing in Y leagues.  The rules and fundamentals of the game will be taught through drills, games and positive reinforcement.  The program is 4 weeks long, and every child will receive a t-shirt at the end of the program.  Program will proceed the sports league for each program. Max registration.

FIT & FUN HOMESCHOOL PROGRAM- ALL SEASONS
P.E./ Fitness program designed for Homeschool children of all ages that builds friendships and encourages interaction and cooperation with others.  Students will improve their sports skills and physical fitness levels, including swimming!  Sports activities include: Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, Dodgeball and Wiffleball.  Fitness activities include: Boot camp, weight instruction, playground and movement games.  Program meets for 6 weeks; swimming every week!

 

TEENS ON WEIGHTS- ALL SEASONS
Build strong bones and muscles by learning to lift weights properly.  This class is for those individuals that would like to use the weight room at age 13.  The class teaches basic strength training exercises for the entire body, as well as weight room rules and etiquette.  The student will take a practical and/or written test at the end of the session, which he/she must pass in order to use the weight room.  If the test is passed, the student will receive a special membership pass to the weight rooms!

 

TENNIS LESSONS- ALL SEASONS
Join our instructor for tennis lessons that cover all the basic ground strokes, serving, overheads, volleys and scorekeeping.  This is a great opportunity to learn a lifelong sport.  For all age groups.

 

TUMBLING- ALL SEASONS
This class is designed to be lots of fun while teaching basic gymnastic skills.  Children will work on improving hand-eye coordination, jumping, skipping and agility, all while making new friends!  Older children will have a chance to build on the basic gymnastic skills and advance to more complex skills including cartwheels, handstands, forward/backward rolls and low balance beam, all while building self-confidence in a fun way!


1ST & 2ND GRADE BASKETBALL LEAGUE- WINTER
This is a co-ed program for children currently in 1st and 2nd grade.  Rims will be lowered to 8 ft, and the program will include a t-shirt.  The league is designed for children to learn the basic fundamentals of the game.  Games will be held on Saturdays.  Practices will be one hour and held during the week, with days and times set by our volunteer coaches.

 

3RD & 4TH GRADE INDOOR SOCCER LEAGUE- WINTER
This is a co-ed program.  Practices will be one hour and held during the week, with days and times set by our volunteer coaches.  When the season begins, teams will only practice once a week, with games on Saturdays.  Fundamentals to be taught include: position and movement, ball dribbling skills, and shooting skills.  Each child will receive a t-shirt.

 

3RD & 4TH GRADE VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE- WINTER
This program is for boys and girls in the 3rd and 4th grade wanting to learn and play volleyball.  Players will learn the fundamentals of bumping and setting in a fun and positive atmosphere.  All participants will receive a t-shirt.  Games will be held on Saturdays.  Practices will be one hour and held during the week, with days and times set by our volunteer coaches.

 

5TH & 6TH GRADE VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE- WINTER
This program is for boys and girls in 5th and 6th grade wanting to learn and play volleyball.  Players will learn the fundamentals of bumping and setting in a fun and positive environment.  All participants will receive a t-shirt.  Games will be held on Saturdays.  Practices will be one hour and held during the week, with days and times set by our volunteer coaches.

 

FREMONT FORCE INDOOR TRACK- WINTER
Co-ed program for kids 4 years through 12th grade of all talents and experience. Program will be led by Marc Glotzbecker and Tony Lopez, who have been coaching track and cross country in Fremont for several years.  Stay in shape during winter and prepare for the outdoor track and field season.  Workouts will focus on sprints, middle distances, form, technique and stretching.

 

PEE WEE BASKETBALL LEAGUE- WINTER
This is a co-ed program for Preschool and Kindergarten aged children.  Practices are limited to one hour a week with games on Saturdays.  Rims will be lowered to 6 ft, and program cost includes t-shirt.  Fundamentals to be taught include: position and movement, ball handling skills (passing, receiving, dribbling, shooting), defensive skills, and rebounding.

 

1ST & 2ND GRADE OUTDOOR SOCCER LEAGUE- SPRING
This is a co-ed program for children in 1st & 2nd grades.  This league is a great way for players to further develop their soccer skills and enhance their love of the game.  Fundamentals of the game will be taught in a fun and playful environment through activities and games.  Players will be responsible for having their own shin guards.  Practices will be for one hour, once a week, with days and times set by the volunteer coaches.  Games will be played on Saturdays.  All practices and games will take place at the Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church (behind the Y).

 

PEE WEE OUTDOOR SOCCER LEAGUE- SPRING
This is a co-ed program for children in Preschool and Kindergarten.  This league is a great way to introduce your child to outdoor soccer.  Fundamentals of the game will be taught in a fun and playful environment through activities and games.  Players will be responsible for having their own shin guards.  Practices will be for one hour, once a week, with days and times set by the volunteer coaches.  Games will be played on Saturdays.  All practices and games will take place at the Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church (behind the Y).

 

RAGBALL/ COACHES PITCH- SPRING
Children ages 6 - 8 are welcome to come and participate in this league.  This is a co-ed program, and is the next step up from t-ball, with the coaches pitching to the children.  Participants will learn the basics of baseball and improve motor skills by hitting a moving target.  Children will need to bring their own gloves,.  Each child will receive a t-shirt for participation.  Practices will be held during the week with games on Saturdays.

 

T-BALL LEAGUE- SPRING
Batter's up!  T-ball for boys and girls aged 4 - 6 years of age.  Kids learn the basic skills of throwing, hitting, catching, and running.  This league is a great way to introduce your athlete to baseball.  This 8 week program is a co-ed league.  Practices will be one hour and held during the week, with days and times set by our volunteer coaches.  Children must be at least 4 years old before May 1st and cannot be over 7 years old before May 1st.

FREMONT FORCE TRACK & FIELD- SPRING
If you love track, then you're perfect for the Y Track Team!  The track team is designed to benefit boys and girls 4 years to 10th grade of all talents and experiences.  Practices will be at the track behind Fremont Ross High School.

 

SUMMER DAY CAMPS- SUMMER
Are you ready for summer?  Y Day Camp provides an amazingly unique opportunity for campers to be who they are in a supportive community while exploring new skills and improving existing ones.  The Y Day Camp experience begins and ends at the Sandusky County YMCA each day of the summer for kids grades K - 5th.  Focused on youth development, crafting strong community, and building friendships, our programming allows campers to progress in their skill development in a variety of activities.

FREMONT FORCE TRACK & FIELD- SUMMER
If you love track, then you're perfect for hte Sandusky County YMCA Track Team!  The track team is designed to benefit boys and girls 4 years through 10th grade of all talents and experiences.  Summer meets will be on Saturdays and meet at area YMCAs in July.

 

1ST & 2ND GRADE FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE- FALL
This is a co-ed flag football league for 1st and 2nd grade boys and girls.  The program provides young players with fun and exciting opportunity to engage in non-contact, continuous action while learning lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship.  Practices will be one hour and held during the week, with days and times set by our volunteer coaches.

 

1ST & 2ND GRADE INDOOR SOCCER LEAGUE- FALL
The soccer league is a co-ed boy's and girl's league.  Practices will be one hour and held during the week, with days and times set by our volunteer coaches.  Games will be on Saturday mornings.  Fundamentals to be taught include: position and movement, ball handling skills and defensive skills.

 

3RD & 4TH NFL FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE- FALL
Boys and Girls in 3rd & 4th Grade will learn the fundamentals of football in this league.  This league will build up the skill level of participants through drills and games geared towards building confidence.  Each participant will receive an NFL team-branded reversible jersey and an NFL FLAG football belt, as well as a free USA Football Player Membership.  Games will be played on Saturdays with practices held during the week.

 

3RD & 4TH GRADE BASKETBALL LEAGUE- FALL
The basketball league is divided into a boy's and girl's league.  Practices will be one hour and held during the week, with days and times set by our volunteer coaches. Fundamentals to be taught include: position and movement, ball handling skills (passing, receiving, dribbling, shooting), defensive skills, and rebounding.  Games are on Saturday mornings.

 

5TH & 6TH GRADE TRAVEL TACKLE FOOTBALL- FALL
Are you ready for some TACKLE football?  The Sandusky County YMCA has joined the Sandusky Bay Young Football League.  Boys and girls must be in the 5th or 6th grade during the school year, and cannot be 13 years of age before September 1st.  No weight limit to play.  Each grade will have two teams.  Home games will be played at Don Paul Stadium and away games will be played at one of the locations of the teams on the league.

 

4 - 6 YEARS OLD VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE- FALL
This 7 week program is a co-ed boys and girls league.  The net will be moved down to help the participants be able to pass and hit the ball over the net.  A 20 x 20 ft court will be used.  Rules will be modified to help kids have a great time learning volleyball.  Practices will be one hour and held during the week, with days and times set by our volunteer coaches.  Games will be played on Saturday mornings.

 

7 - 8 YEARS OLD VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE- FALL
This 7 week program is a co-ed boys and girls league.  The net will be moved down to help the participants be able to pass and hit the ball over the net.  A 20 x 20 ft court will be used.  Rules will be modified to help kids have a great time learning volleyball. Practices will be one hour and held during the week, with days and times set by our volunteer coaches.  Games will be played on Saturday mornings.

FREMONT FORCE CROSS COUNTRY- FALL
If you love to run and move, then you're perfect for the Fremont Force/ SCYMCA Cross Country Team!  The cross country team is designed to benefit boys and girls 4 years through 10th grade of all talents and experiences.  Meets will be in September and October, ending with a 1K run in Fremont.  Additional meets will be hosted by area communities.
